Apparently the above form Wu Bu Quan is compulsory in all Shaolin Temples and related school. They use the terminilogy like Wushu, Shaoilin Wushu, Gong Fu, Chan Quan but they all mean Kung Fu! The Wubu Quan is the Five steps of Shaolin Boxing, the very basics.

It is a standardised chang quan form, and was composed quite recently. It's not a shaolin form (ie, i didnt originate at the temple), but it's a good foundation.

Wu Bu Quan is a modern wushu basic training form. And is not compulsory at the shaolin temple but it is at some of the related school aroud the area....Sorry to bust your bubble but Xiao Hong Quan and its variants are the basic and traditional compulsory form at shaolin temple while wu bu quan is a modern form created for beginners and is only 40 years old lol!

Wushu.Gong fu,chang quan "long fist" DO NOT MEAN KUNG FU...WuShu= WU-martial, Shu-Art or skill. Chang quan is a modern northern style and a term for all northern styles,Gong Fu means Hard Work or effort a skill aquired through time which could mean anything from cooking to playing basket ball, Gong fu or kung fu is a slang term used in "Amercian" culture, is an incorrect and bastardized term taking out of context. As a chinese martial artist 34thshaolinstudent you should have known that by now.

GongFu is also a term for the martial arts of China, yet it is NEVER a bastardized name; on the contrary it has a deeper connotation for the art; it means hard work, time and energy ! Martial Arts is a term which means the art of fighting. Wu bu Quan is 5 step fist.

well said.
SanJuinNoJutsu - Posted on Dec 22, 2009

Even my Shaolin Sifu (teacher), which is not a master, does that much better, not talking about my friends and I who learn only one year.

i can't seem to find the song... i'm totally in love wif the song!!!!
IamNorthwind - Posted on Feb 17, 2010
And Chang Quan can refer to many different things based on context...
TaoOfTheFist - Posted on Feb 20, 2010
I believe it was Ark Y. Wong who first used kung fu as a synonymous term for wushu. I try to avoid using the term kung fu and call it CMA. Wushu is as much a bastardizing term to me as kung fu is to you (damn those gymnasts with their tinfoil swords and silky flamoyant pajamas that vaguely resemble Mandarin style clothes), so I avoid that term as well.
