Using Fiat facilities and working from a Fiat Tipo proposal by Giorgetto Giugiaro, they come up with a roomy, clean C - segment design with a 0.32 coefficient of drag. The first production Floridas leave Kragujevac lines on October 2nd, 1988. The name is a reference to the company's success Stateside, where the Yugo finds 145, 511 homes between 1985 and 1991. Zastava hopes that the $7, 500 Yugo Florida will join the Yugo in the U.S., but the Yugoslav Civil War forces the company to shelve its plans.
